Dr. Traci Morris is the Executive Director of the American Indian Policy Institute (AIPI) at Arizona State University and a Research Professor at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. A citizen of the Chickasaw Nation, Dr. Morris is a national thought leader on Tribal Digital Sovereignty, driving crucial research and policy at the intersection of artificial intelligence, data governance, and telecommunications in Indian Country.
A prolific writer and researcher shaping the future of Indigenous technology policy, Dr. Morris recently co-authored an article on AI in Indian Country with the Brookings Institution (February) and curated and published three articles in the Journal of Community Informatics (February). Her foundational research also includes the landmark Tribal Technology Assessment (2019) and editing Native American Voices: A Reader.
Beyond her scholarship, Dr. Morris is a transformative leader. She co-founded the Center for Tribal Digital Sovereignty with the National Congress of American Indians, established the Indigenous Leadership Academy, and has provided expert testimony on Capitol Hill and before the FCC.
Dr. Morris holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in American Indian Studies from the University of Arizona.
