Lisa Johnson-Billy currently serves in the Chickasaw Nation Legislature, where she has championed the integration of the Chickasaw language into official legislative proceedings, reflecting her deep commitment to cultural and language preservation. A dedicated public servant, she previously represented Oklahoma House District 42 for 12 years, making history as the first woman and first Native American elected to the seat. During her tenure, she co-founded the Oklahoma Native Caucus and authored key legislation advancing tribal sovereignty, including protections for tribal jurisdiction and preservation of Indigenous languages. Lisa was appointed in 2025 by the Oklahoma Speaker of the House to serve as a commissioner for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. She is the second woman in Oklahoma’s history to serve on the commission.
