Kara Bacon

Kara Bacon was raised in Bryan County and is a citizen of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Southeastern Oklahoma State University and her Juris Doctor from the University of Oklahoma College of Law with an emphasis in Native American Law.

Ms. Bacon spent more than a decade in public service, holding key leadership roles within Oklahoma’s criminal justice system. As Assistant District Attorney and later First Assistant District Attorney for District Six, she oversaw major criminal, juvenile, and deprived cases across four counties. She also launched the Grady County Coordinated Community Response Team and established the yearly Together We Heel Walk, expanding community engagement and support for domestic violence victims.

In 2019, Ms. Bacon joined the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma as Chief Prosecutor, where she led the Nation through the post‑McGirt transition. She guided the expansion of the Tribal Prosecutor’s Office, developed core policies and procedures, strengthened intergovernmental partnerships, and supported the creation of multiple justice‑system divisions, including the Ahni Child Advocacy Center—one of only four tribal CACs in the United States. During this period, she was also appointed as an Associate Bar Examiner for the Oklahoma Board of Bar Examiners, a role she continues to hold.

After leaving public office, Ms. Bacon founded Bacon Law PLLC, where she currently practices in both state and tribal courts, handling matters involving tribal law, family law, criminal defense, personal injury, and estate planning. She also serves as the District Judge for the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas, expanding her judicial leadership within tribal justice systems.
