Erick Giles

Erick Giles is a citizen of the Mvskoke (Creek) Nation of Oklahoma from the Rekackv (Broken Arrow) Tribal Town and the Katcv (Big Cat/Tiger/Panther) Clan. He advises Tribal governments and their enterprises on a wide range of policy, governance, and economic development matters, with particular experience in gaming, land use, taxation, and regulatory development. Erick’s practice includes drafting Tribal laws, forming Tribal corporations in accordance with federal and Tribal law, and advising on land into trust applications, leases, and PL 93-638 contracts. He regularly negotiates contracts and lease agreements and has worked with Indian Health Services to complete multiple applications and agreements under the Section 105(l) ISDEAA lease program. He also has experience advising on commercial and land use code compliance under federal, Tribal, and state law. Erick has led significant economic development initiatives, including organizing the first Tribal brewery and distillery in the State of California for the Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians and negotiating with the State of California to secure the necessary craft distillery and brewery licenses. Prior to practicing law, Erick worked for the Cherokee Nation in Tahlequah and as a city planner for municipalities in Oklahoma, Montana, New Hampshire, and Maine, advising boards and commissions and conducting compliance reviews on real estate development projects. He also served as a Program Officer for the Indian Land Tenure Foundation, where he focused on Tribal economic development and agricultural initiatives and developed deep familiarity with federal leasing laws across Indian Country. Erick currently serves as Chairman of the Haudenosaunee Nationals Development Group and sits on the Board of Directors for the National Intertribal Tax Alliance.
