Kelli Matthews Smalling

Kelli Matthews is the Executive Director of Engage Learning, a STEM/STEAM-focused 501(c)(3) dedicated to expanding access to innovative education and technology experiences for youth and communities. Her work focuses on science communication, digital literacy, emerging technology, and equitable access to STEM education. Kelli studied Broadcast Communications at the University of Central Oklahoma and pursued graduate studies in Environmental Sustainability at the University of Oklahoma, focusing on hydrologic systems and complex adaptive systems. She previously worked as a journalist and video editor for NEWS9 before transitioning into technology, where she spent years working in custom software and application design, applied research, and large-scale data projects for startups as well as Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies. She currently serves on the Executive Committee and co-chairs the Governance Committee for the national board of AISES. Kelli also serves on the Muscogee Nation Tribal Utility Authority Board, contributing to conversations surrounding infrastructure, sustainability, technology, and community resilience. Through her work, Kelli advocates for thoughtful, community-centered approaches to technology adoption, ethical AI, Indigenous sovereignty in technology, and public engagement.
